Engine air filters: match the housing, then choose the upkeep
A useful shortlist separates the exact engine application from the choice between replacement and reusable media.
Resolve the application first
Select the complete year, model, engine and any variant shown. The 2020 CX-5 provides a concrete example: K&N 33-2480 is documented for the non-turbo selection, while 33-3024 is documented for the turbo selection. A shared displacement, brand or similar panel shape does not connect those applications.
The vehicle selector covers a researched set of gas-engine combinations, not a full parts database. If your vehicle is absent or its original air box has changed, research the exact part through the manufacturer before treating a result as a candidate.
Compare replacement, washable and oil-free care
For the supported 2021 RAV4 gas selection, KNA-2443 and KNX-2443 are non-washable cellulose-blend replacements. K&N 33-2443 is washable cotton gauze. AEM 28-20443 is washable synthetic media that does not require filter oil. These distinctions tell you what upkeep to investigate; they do not establish a performance ranking.
Competing manufacturer records now include FRAM CA12377 and WIX WA10859 for that same selected application. Both list cellulose media. Their manufacturer tables establish their own applications; a cross-reference from another brand is only a research lead. Compare their exact specifications and current listings without treating similar materials as equal performance.
Compare the correct cleaner and any required filter oil alongside the filter purchase. Follow the exact media’s care instructions. A lifetime or long-life product name is not a maintenance interval for your vehicle.
Compare exact records
Keep the vehicle selection while opening alternatives. Use each part’s application reference, then compare its media, washability, dimensions and package. Seller search results can contain other part numbers, so confirm the full code and package again on the destination site.
